Come learn about the long, rich history of Mehndi and wear home your own creation. Mehndi is the application of henna as a temporary form of skin decoration and is popular in areas such as South Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, and Somalia. Henna is a natural product, a reddish-brown dye obtained from the bark of the henna plant. It is typically used for special occasions, particularly weddings and is drawn on the hands and feet where the color will be darkest. The tradition of Henna started in India in the days when bridal decoration was scarce. Henna paste is usually applied to the skin using a plastic cone or paint brush. The painted area is then wrapped to lock in body heat and create a more intense color. The wrap may be worn overnight. The final color is reddish brown and can last anywhere from two weeks to several months depending on the quality of the paste.
